Seamless Sweetheart Bunny: Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

An Introduction from Patricia to Your Seamless Sweetheart Bunny

Hello, my dear crocheter, and welcome! It's Patricia Poltera, and I am simply over the moon to share this special project with you. The Seamless Sweetheart Bunny isn't just another amigurumi; it's a testament to the elegant engineering that crochet allows. We’ll be using clever techniques to build the head, neck, and body all in one graceful piece, and even join the legs as we go. This method creates an incredibly durable, heirloom-quality friend with a beautiful, uninterrupted silhouette.

I'm so delighted to share this advanced Sweetheart Bunny pattern with you for free. Your enthusiasm and support, simply by visiting and sharing my work, are what truly keep my hooks clicking and allow me to dream up these lovely designs. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now, let’s get everything we need to bring this steadfast little companion to life.

Materials You'll Need for Your Seamless Sweetheart Bunny

Creating that smooth, huggable finish comes down to choosing the right materials. For a project this special, we want supplies that let our skilled stitching shine.

Yarn

  • Primary Yarn: Worsted weight (Aran/10-ply) cotton or a smooth cotton-acrylic blend. I used about 150g of Soft Off-White. Cotton gives us that crisp stitch definition essential for a seamless look.
  • Accessory Yarn: Worsted weight in Golden Yellow (approx. 50g) for the dress, shoes, and bows.
  • Embroidery Floss: A small amount of Jet Black for the facial details and Soft Pink for the blush.

Hooks & Notions

  • Absolute Essentials:
    • 2.75mm (C) Crochet Hook: Using a slightly smaller hook than the yarn calls for is my secret to fabric so tight that no stuffing shows through.
    • Polyester Fiberfill Stuffing: For a firm, huggable shape.
    • Stitch Markers: Absolutely critical for tracking the beginning of your rounds, especially when joining the legs.
    • Tapestry Needle: For weaving in ends and the small amount of sewing we have.
    • Scissors.
  • My 'Game Changer' Recommendations:
    • Locking Stitch Markers: You'll need at least two to hold the legs in place before joining them to the body. It makes the process much less fiddly!
    • A Hemostat or Stuffing Stick: This will be your best friend for getting fiberfill firmly into the neck and limbs.

Skills Required & Techniques Demystified for Your Seamless Sweetheart Bunny

This pattern is an adventurous journey for the intermediate-to-advanced crocheter. We'll be using some exciting techniques to achieve that gorgeous seamless finish.

Crochet Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • MR: Magic Ring
  • sc: Single Crochet
  • inc: Increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec: Invisible Decrease (a decrease worked in the front loops only)
  • st(s): Stitch(es)
  • ch: Chain
  • sl st: Slip Stitch
  • hdc: Half Double Crochet
  • dc: Double Crochet
  • FLO: Front Loop Only
  • BLO: Back Loop Only
  • [...]: Repeat the instructions within the brackets
  • (...): The number in parentheses at the end of a round is your total stitch count.

Key Techniques

  • Working in a Continuous Spiral: We won't be joining rounds with a slip stitch for the main body parts, which gives us that smooth, seam-free look.
  • Invisible Decrease: This is vital for all amigurumi, ensuring your decreases are neat and don't leave gaps.
  • Joining Parts by Crocheting: This is our star technique! For the legs, we will hold the finished leg against the body and work our single crochet stitches through both layers simultaneously. This creates a strong, seamless join that is the hallmark of this pattern.
  • Crocheting On Parts: For the arms, we will attach yarn directly to the side of the finished body and begin crocheting the arm in the round, building it right off the torso.

A Note on Photos & Your Unique Sweetheart Bunny

Remember, every handmade creation is a reflection of its maker. Your bunny will have its own unique personality, and that's the most beautiful part of this craft. The placement of its blush or the tilt of its ear is what makes it uniquely yours.

Onwards, creative spirit, let's bring our Seamless Sweetheart Bunny to life! The full pattern is next.

The Seamless Sweetheart Bunny Amigurumi Pattern

Important Notes: This pattern is worked in a continuous spiral unless stated otherwise. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of every round. Stuff your bunny firmly, especially the neck area, to ensure it is stable.

Legs (Make 2 in Off-White)

Stuff the legs as you go, stopping about 2 rounds from the top.

Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a MR. (6)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12)

Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6. (18)

Rnd 4-7 (4 rounds): Sc in each st around. (18)

Rnd 8: sc 4, dec x 5, sc 4. (13)

Rnd 9: sc 4, dec x 2, sc 5. (11)

Rnd 10-16 (7 rounds): Sc in each st around. (11)

Fasten off the first leg. For the second leg, do not fasten off. We will use the yarn from the second leg to continue to the body after a brief setup.

Leg Finishing: On the second leg, ch 3. Join with a sl st to the first leg. This chain bridge will form the space between the legs. The next round will be worked around both legs and the chain.

This instruction set has been updated based on the seamless body construction below. Please follow the instructions below for the final, superior seamless construction method.

Correction & Clarification from Patricia: My dear, I've had a better idea for the most flawless finish! Please make the legs entirely separately and fasten them off. The initial thought of chaining them together works, but for the most control and perfect placement, we will crochet them directly into the body. Please follow this updated plan:

Joining the Legs: This is the advanced part! Pin the finished legs to the sides of the body. The front of the legs should face forward. Ensure they are symmetrical. Rnd 37: [sc 5, dec] x 6. (36)

Rnd 41: [sc, dec] x 6. (12)

Rnd 42: dec x 6. (6) Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use a tapestry needle to weave the tail through the front loops of the final 6 stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in the end securely.

Arms (Make 2, in Off-White)

We will crochet these directly onto the body.

Step 1: Identify the attachment point. This should be on the side of the body, approximately at Rnd 25, just below the neck.

Step 2: Attach your Off-White yarn with a sl st to the body. Ch 1.

Rnd 1: Work 8 sc evenly in a circle around the joining point. To do this, you will insert your hook into the stitch posts of the body. Place a stitch marker in the first sc. (8)

Rnd 2-12 (11 rounds): Sc in each st around. (8) Stuff the arm lightly, leaving the top unstuffed.

Rnd 13: [sc 2, dec] x 2. (6) Fasten off, leaving a tail to close the small hole if necessary, and weave in the end. Repeat for the second arm on the other side, ensuring it is symmetrical.

Ears (Make 2, in Off-White)

Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a MR. (6)

Rnd 2: [sc, inc] x 3. (9)

Rnd 3: Sc in each st around. (9)

Rnd 10: [sc 2, dec] x 3. (9)

Rnd 11-12 (2 rounds): Sc in each st around. (9) Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff the ears. Fold the base flat before sewing.

Assembly Instructions for Your Sweetheart Bunny

Thanks to our seamless method, assembly is a breeze!

  1. Face: Using your Jet Black embroidery floss, embroider sleepy, curved eyes over the top of the safety eyes. Add a small 'v' for the nose and a vertical line down from it. Use the Soft Pink floss to create a soft blush by making a few horizontal stitches under each eye.
  2. Ears: Flatten the base of the ears. Using the long tail, sew them securely to the top of the head, around Rnds 4-8. I like to position them with a slight backward curve.
  3. Dress & Bows: Put the dress on the bunny and use the tail from the bodice to sew the back closed. Tie one bow to the base of one ear, and the other to the center of the dress neckline.

Tips & Tricks for Your Sweetheart Bunny

A few extra thoughts to ensure your bunny is perfect!

Troubleshooting Seamless Joins

  • Leg Alignment: Before committing to crocheting the legs on, use locking stitch markers to pin them in place. Look at the bunny from the front, back, and top to ensure they are perfectly symmetrical.
  • Stitch Count: If your stitch count is off after Rnd 35 (the joining round), it's likely you either missed a body stitch hidden behind the leg, or accidentally worked into a leg stitch on the next round. Go back and count carefully—it's worth the effort!
  • Strong Neck: The most common issue with top-down figures is a wobbly head. The key is very firm stuffing. Stuff the head, then stuff the neck, then as you work the body, keep pushing more stuffing up into that neck area.

Customization Corner

  • A Fluffier Friend: For a softer, cuddlier bunny, try making this pattern with a worsted weight chenille or velvet yarn. You may need to adjust your hook size accordingly.
  • Different Outfit: The dress base is very versatile! Try different skirt stitches, add stripes, or even crochet a tiny pair of overalls.
  • Bunny Personality: Change the eye style completely! Open, awake eyes or even button eyes can give your bunny a totally different personality.

Frequently Asked Pattern & Finishing Questions for Sweetheart Bunny

  • Q: Why are my bunny's legs pointing outwards?
    • A: This usually happens due to the direction of your stitches during the join. When you crochet through the leg and the body, make sure you are inserting your hook from the outside of the leg towards the inside, and then through the body stitch. This helps the legs sit straight. Also, ensure you stuffed them firmly but not so much that they bulge.
  • Q: My arm attachment looks messy. How can I make it neater?
    • A: The trick to crocheting on arms is to be consistent with where you insert your hook into the body. Try to space the 8 starting stitches as evenly as possible in a circle on the body's stitch posts. After you finish, you can use the starting tail to close up any small gaps before weaving it in.
  • Q: Can I make this pattern with a different yarn weight?
    • A: Absolutely! Just remember to use a correspondingly smaller hook to keep your stitches tight. A DK weight yarn will give you a more petite bunny, while a bulky yarn will create a big, cuddly giant. The pattern works the same, but your final size will change.
